Veneers Q & A

Am I a good candidate for veneers?

Dr. Lee will conduct a thorough examination and discuss your aesthetic goals to determine whether veneers are your best option. They are an ideal solution for correcting many issues, including:

  • Broken teeth
  • Discoloration that hasn’t responded to whitening
  • Pits and gaps
  • Uneven tooth edges
  • Worn teeth
  • Crooked teeth

How are veneers applied?

First, your teeth are prepared by removing a minimal amount of enamel from the surface -- approximately half a millimeter. This enables the wafer-thin veneers to lay flush with your other teeth. Next, Dr. Lee takes an impression of your teeth, which is sent to a dental to custom make your veneers. This can take 2-4 weeks. In the interim, temporary veneers are affixed to your teeth.

At your next appointment, Dr. Lee will show you how your veneers will look like on your teeth before bonding them to ensure you will be pleased with the outcome. Provided you are pleased, next he’ll bond the veneers to your teeth with dental cement, curing it with a special light. The final step: Dr. Lee will evaluate your bite to make sure the veneers are well-aligned and feel comfortable. This process is painless and the recovery time is minimal.

Are veneers permanent?

Everyone is different. But for most patients, veneers last between 10-15 years. They require no additional care than your natural teeth. As with your natural teeth, biting on ice, popcorn kernels and other hard objects can cause damage and should be avoided. An extra benefit of porcelain veneers is that they are stain resistant, making them an ideal choice for patients who drink coffee, tea or red wine. If you experience any problems with your veneers, make an appointment with Dr. Lee to have them repaired as soon as possible.
